This is a Smiley Face games or crafts that creates a odds 'n ends box to hold a child's small toys, hair items, desk accessories, baseball cards, or whatever.

Children ages 7 and up will enjoy making it, especially girls. If beads are too expensive, use dry peas, beans, and un popped popcorn to make the mosaic smiley face on top of the box's lid.

Materials:

  • A box of any size smaller than a shoe box, cardboard or             plastic, with a lid, clear or opaque. If the lid is attached and opens up, it's perfect. If not, we'll attach it.
  • White glue
  • Small plastic beads in pretty colors
  • Heavy duty tape (like package sealing) if the lid is not               attached
  • If beads are too expensive, use dry beans, peas, and un            popped popcorn
  • White paper
  • Pencil and eraser

Method:

  • Use the heavy duty tape to fasten one side of the lid to the box, so that it will open and close.

  • Put the tape inside the lid and box.

  • You may need to cut or trim a bit off the lid if its sides              interfere with it closing.

  • The child should design the mosaic before starting to glue the beads.

  • Draw it on the paper. The smiley face goes in the middle and the child decorates around it.

  • Use the glue to fasten the beads onto the lid of the box,           according to the design.

  • Allow the glue to dry overnight. Enjoy playing this smiley face games or crafts idea.

Smiley Face Games or Crafts - Smiley Face Concentration Game

To make this Smiley Face Game, you will need 3" by 5" cards and a felt pen and that's all!

smiley-face-games-or-crafts2

The game is a Concentration Game, played with Smiley Faces! To play the game, children shuffle the cards and lay them face down on a table in four rows of six cards each.

The object of the game is to turn over two cards that are the same, with each player taking turns. Each time a player finds a pair, he/she keeps the pair. And, that player gets another turn.

If the cards turned over don't match, they are turned upside down again and kept in play. The player with the most pairs at the end, when all the cards have been matched up, is the winner.

Children must try to remember where each card is located as they play the game. To determine who has the first turn, roll a die or play Rock, Scissors, Paper.

Materials:

  • 3" by 5" white index cards {7 1/2 cm x 12 1/2 cm}
  • Black felt pen
  • The template
  • Scissors (optional)
  • Glue (optional)

Instructions:

  • Make two cards of each smiley face, copying the faces from the template.

  • Make the faces large enough to fill the cards.

  • The cards can be laminated and kept in a manila envelope or plastic bag.

  • Or, the children can print two copies of the template, cut out the faces and glue them on the 3" by 5" cards.

Variations

  • If you want a more challenging game, add more smiley faces.

  • If children 5 and under are playing, reduce the cards to 6 pairs only.
