Popsicle Stick Crafts

popsicle-stick-crafts1

My daughter loves to make popsicle stick crafts out of her old popsicle sticks. She collects them and comes up with some wonderful inventions. Here are a few that you could use. Ages 4 and up can do this one. The younger ones may need help printing the words.

North Pole Sign

Materials:

  • 1 tongue depressor
  • White and red poster paints
  • Paint brush
  • White cardboard
  • Black felt pen
  • Red and green construction paper
  • A narrow strip of red, white, green, or black ribbon
  • Scissors
  • White glue or rubber cement

Method:

  • Paint the tongue depressor white.

  • Let dry.

  • Cut a 1 1/2" by 3" {3 3/4cm. by 7 1/2cm} rectangle from the     cardboard.

  • Trim the top and bottom so that they "wave" a little (i.e.; are    not perfectly straight).

  • With the black felt pen, print "North Pole" and an arrow on the    cardboard.

  • Cut 2 holly leaves from the green construction paper, about       1/2" {1 1/2cm} long.

  • Cut 3 small red holly berries from the red construction paper.      Don't worry if the leaves and berries are not perfect; they'll       look fine.

  • Add red and green glitter to the holly berries and holly leaves.

  • Let dry.

  • When the tongue depressor is dry, paint it again with white        paint.

  • Let it dry.

  • Paint red, diagonal stripes on the tongue depressor, like a          candy cane.

  • Let dry.

  • Add red glitter to the red stripes.

  • Let dry.

  • Glue the North Pole sign on the tongue depressor.

  • Glue the holly leaves and berries under the sign.

  • Cut an 8" {20cm} strip of ribbon for a hanger and glue it to       the back side of the tongue depressor, near the top.

  • Let dry.

Star Christmas Decoration - Popsicle Stick Crafts 4

A "star" Christmas ornament can be made by gluing 3 tongue depressors, one on top of the other. (Use two to make an X and glue it over a third.)
