Paper Crafts For Kids 1 - James The Red Engine
James is one of Thomas the Tank Engine's friends, as seen on T.V. You can make his body with a light cardboard tube or an oatmeal box (the cylindrical type).
Materials :
- The template of James' face and body, etc.
- Crayons
- Lightweight cardboard rectangles 11" by 9" {27 1/2 cm. by 22 1/2 cm.}, one per craft.
- Extra lightweight cardboard
- An oatmeal box (cylindrical) (optional)
- Scissors
- Glue
- A pencil
- Package sealing tape
- Two tongue depressors
Method:
- Download the template of James' face and body 8 1/2" by 11" paper
- The body (the largest piece) is red.
- The face is flesh color with blue eyes, red mouth and cheeks, black eyebrows.
- The two small round pieces (lights) are yellow.
- The rest of the pieces are black, except the 4 round ones.
- The round shape is traced 4 times and cut out of light cardboard for wheels.
- Cut out the pieces from the template. This may require adult help.
- Use the cardboard rectangle to form a tube, rolling the shorter sides inward and fastening them ogether with package sealing tape (adult task).
- Draw long lines on the tongue depressors.
- Color the engine's wheels and glue two on each side with a tongue depressor glued from one to the other as a connector.
- Glue James' face on his red body.
- Glue on his "hat" and the two lights.
- Tape his cowcatchers on from behind.
- Tape James to the front of the cylindrical tube.
Paper Crafts For Kids 2 - Chick In An Egg
This free craft uses four templates (one chick, one egg, and two egg halves) to make a chick in an egg. The craft is easy to make for children ages 5 to 7 and is suitable for making during the Easter season or when studying farms.

Materials:
- Lightweight, white cardboard
- The paper templates of the chick, the whole egg, and the two egg halves
- Crayons
- Scissors
- A hole punch
- One brad
Method:
- Download the template of the chick 8 1/2" by 11" paper
- Download the template of the egg and egg halves 8 1/2" by 11" paper
- Cut out the egg templates (the whole egg and the two halves) and trace them onto the white cardboard.
- Cut them out of the cardboard.
- Color the chick yellow and draw on an orange wing. Color the beak orange.
- Put the chick together by pushing the brad through the egg pieces and chick,at the dots, in this order: (You may need to punch holes with the hole punch.)
- The second cracked egg
- The chick
- The whole egg
- Spread the prongs of the brad apart on the back of the project.
- The egg should open up to reveal the chick inside.
