Crafts decorating piller candles can be decorated for a season or a specific occasion. For example colorful construction paper leaves and pine cones in Autumn. This is an Autumn candle holder. Children ages 5 (with help) and up can do this craft.

Materials:


  • 2 clean tuna cans, labels removed             
  • Orange, black, red, and yellow construction paper (1 sheet each)
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • White glue or rubber cement
  • Glitter or glitter glue
  • Toothpicks 2 White, pillar candles
  • Heavy duty cardboard (12"by 12" or a 30 cm. square) or a silver tray
  • Heavy duty foil
  • Some pine cones and real autumn leaves


Method:


  • Measure and cut an 11" by 3/4"{27.5 cm. by 1.88 cm.} strip of yellow construction paper.

  • Measure and cut an 11" by 3/4"{27.5 cm. by 1.88 cm.} strip of black construction paper.

  • Glue them to the outside of the tuna cans. (Each will overlap.)

  • Let dry.

  • Draw (or trace small, real leaves) leaves on the red and orange   construction paper.

  • Cut out the leaves.

  • Glue the leaves on the tuna cans. Overlap some.

  • Draw the veins of the leaves on them with white glue, using the toothpick.

  • Lightly dust with glitter or use the glitter glue to decorate the    leaves.

  • Put a pillar candle inside each can.

  • Dust the top of the candle with glitter.

  • Cut a square out of the heavy duty cardboard, 12" by 12" {30cm. by 30 cm.}

  • Cover the square with heavy duty foil and fold it underneath.

  • Choose some pine cones. They can be painted or decorated with glitter.

  • Glue real autumn leaves and the pine cones around your candle holders.

  • Or, put all the items on a silver tray.

Variations:


At Christmas time, use construction paper holly leaves and berries to decorate the cans (covered in white) and put fake snow and small Christmas ornaments around the crafts decorating piller candles.


  • Sprinkle with red glitter.

  • In the spring, cover the tuna cans in pale green and decorate with spring flowers in pink, purple, yellow, and blue.

  • Surround the candles with "grass" made of green colored           coconut and put jellybeans in the grass or small marshmallow      bunnies.

  • In summer, cover the cans with light brown and decorate with real or drawn ocean shells.

  • Cover the tray with sand and put paper umbrellas in the sand.

  • For 4th of July, cover the cans in red with white stars and cover the tray with blue.

  • Put fake "firecrackers" made of red straws and dental floss (for the fuses) on the tray.
