Chinese New Year Crafts
These Chinese new year crafts are tons of fun to make. Here we'll show you how to make a Chinese New Year dragon, so you and your friends can have your own Chinese New Year procession.
Chinese New Year Dragon
Materials:
- Pair of scissors
- Tissue paper
- Paper
- Sticky tape
- Two long sticks
- Thin card
- Felt tip pens
- Glitter
- Glue
Method:
- Draw a large dragon's head onto the thin card.
- Now use the felt tip pens and glitter to decorate the head.
- Carefully cut the dragons head out.
- Cut stripes of the tissue paper to use as ribbons.
- Glue the tissue paper ribbons onto the Dragon's head.
- Make the body by taking two strips of paper and folding them one over the other repeatedly to make a concertina.
- Once you get to the end, glue the two pieces of paper together.
- Now attach paper ribbons to the dragon's tail.
- Glue the head to the other end of the body.
- Use sticky tape to attach the sticks to the dragon's body.
- Attach one to the head and the other to the tail.
Chinese New Year Crafts 2 - String Of Firecrackers
A common decoration during Chinese New Year is a string of red firecrackers. Some believe that throwing firecrackers scares away evil spirits. Make a string of your own to display!
What you'll need:
- 4 or more cardboard tubes
- Red paint
- Paint Brush
- Gold glitter glue
- White cotton
- Scissors
How to make it:
- Paint cardboard tube in using red paint and brushes.
- Using glue, make different designs on the cardboard tubes and roll them in the glitter. Dry.
- Tape cotton inside one end of every tube.
- String together, one higher than the other. If you have many, you can hangthe tubes in pairs, two at the top, two below that, two below that, and so on.
- Use these to decorate for the new year.
Chinese New Year Crafts 3 -New Year Dumplings
Dumplings resemble ancient Chinese coins, making them a symbol of wealth for the Year to come.
What you'll need:
- Felt - a tan colour
- Pair of scissors
- Glue gun
- Tweezers - two pairs
How to make it:
- Cut the tan felt into 3” diameter circles.
- Cut the scraps of felt that are not used into small pieces.
- Use the scraps of felt as the dumpling filling. Place these in the center of the circles.
- Fold the circle in half.
- Parents should do the next part. Using the glue gun, line the edges of the circle wih glue.
- Now carefully using the tweezers pinch the outer side together to form a dumpling shape.
- Allow to dry.
